Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis indicate the substance was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior political figure commented the vandalism left him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
